  E-Z Ratch Torsion Spring Tightener

The E-Z Ratch system was designed to provide the overhead door industry with a safe, quick, and easy method to tighten, wind and unwind torsion springs.

E-Z Ratch eliminates the need for winding bars and likewise minimizes the risks and dangers  commonly faced by professionals who work with torsion springs.

Operator Instructions

An illustrated version of operating instructions are included with each tool set.  You must fully read the instruction sheet before attempting to use the tool for the first time.

The following is an overview that demonstrate how easy it is to learn to use the E-Z Ratch.

Winding Instructions

  • Open the split gear adaptor clamp and slide it over the torsion spring shaft.

  • Insert the proper size pin through adaptor clamp and into the torsion spring cone then tighten the set screw.
  • Place the tool's ratchet head over the torsion bar, then slide it over the adaptor gear.  Do the same for the second ratchet.

  • Place the safety clamp over the shaft, slide over the gear, and tighten the thumb screw.

  • Wind or unwind the torsion spring by ratcheting in the desired direction.  For more leverage extend the ratchet handles out to a full 34 inches.

  • When the spring is fully wound use the ratchets to maintain pressure and then tighten the set screws on the cone
  • Remove the tool.

Unwinding Instructions

  • Place the E-Z Ratch on the spring as described above.
  • Use the ratchets to place pressure on the adapter as if winding the spring, then loosen the set screw on the cone.
  • Allow the handle with pressure to move slowly in the direction that the spring is pushing.
  • Pull back on the opposite ratchet handle until it moves freely towards the direction of spring movement.
  • Repeat the above steps until the spring is unwound.
  • Remove the tool from the spring.
